How To Travel with Pets On Swiss Air: Pet Policy & Reservations

Traveling with pets is fun but it becomes quite important to know their reservation process on the airlines with which you are traveling. Every airline has its own guidelines and condition that need to be followed to travel with pets and there are times when many airlines even don’t let you travel with your pet due to certain restrictions.

But when it comes to Swiss Air, the airline does let you make pet reservations with it.  However, there are certain that you need to understand before you make your Swiss Pet Reservations to fly. Pets in the Cabin – Swiss Air

Swiss Air does allow dogs and cats in its cabins in both domestic and international flights. The following are the major guidelines regarding the same that you need to know.

  • The combined weight of pets and carrier must not exceed more than 17 lbs or 8 kg
  • The pets must be clean, healthy and smell-free
  • No pets are allowed in Swiss flights that may be dangerous, pregnant, or annoying
  • The fee for carrying pets in Swiss Air flight cabins may vary on the destinations

Pets in Checked Baggage – Swiss Air

The following are the guidelines that you need to keep in mind before Swiss flying with pets in checked baggage.

  • The combined weight of pets and carriers must be equal or lesser than 17 lbs or 8 kg and the combined dimensions of transport container more than 118 cm in the checked baggage on Swiss Air
  • Dogs that might be considered to be dangerous breeds should be transported in a suitable cargo crate and they are not allowed to travel in the cabin
  • The following are the dimensions of the medium and large carrier with respect to their weight limit:
  • Medium carriers to: 23.5"  x 18" x 16" (60 cm x 45 cm x 40 cm),
  • Large carriers can range between: 28" x 20" x 20" (71 cm x 50 cm x 51 cm) to 41" x 30" x 31" (105 cm x 75 cm x 79 cm) weighing up to 30 lbs or 14 kg

Pets in Cargo: Swiss Air

Passengers can use the Swiss World Cargo services to transport their pets on their own or to countries as per their requirement as a cargo.  

Carrier Guidelines: Swiss Air

The following are the carrier guidelines for pets traveling in Swiss Air’s cabins and in the hold.

In Cabins

  • Pet carriers in Swiss Air cabins must not exceed the total dimensions of 46" or 118 cm
  • Pet carrier must be large and comfortable enough for the pets and they must be safe inside it
  • The carrier must be stowed away under the passenger’s seat during the travel time, however, this might not be possible on every Swiss flight, and hence, other arrangements will be organized if necessary.

In Hold

The following are the dimensions for pet carriers traveling in a hold on Swiss Air.

  • Medium carriers: 23.5" x 18" x 16" or 60 cm x 45 cm x 40 cm
  • Large carriers can range between: 28" x 20" x 20" or 71 cm x 50 cm x 51 cm to 41" x 30" x 31" or 105 cm x 75 cm x 79 cm
  • The pet carriers must be leak-proof, contain food and water during the pet’s journey time.

Pets Fee On Swiss Air

The following are the Swiss Air pet fee depending on the flights traveling from/to.

In Cabins

  • For flights from Switzerland to Europe: 60 CHF
  • For Switzerland-Intercontinental flights: 90 CHF
  • Flights Within Europe: 50 EUR
  • For Europe-Intercontinental flights: 70 EUR
  • For Intercontinental-Europe flights: $100
  • For flights Intercontinental via Europe: $100.

Checked Baggage

  • For flights from Switzerland to Europe (medium): 120 CHF & 240 CHF (large)
  • Switzerland-Intercontinental (medium):180 CHF & 360 CHF (large)
  • Within Europe: 100 EUR (medium) & 200 EUR (large)
  • Europe-Intercontinental: 150 EUR (medium) & 300 EUR (large)
  • Intercontinental-Europe: $200 (medium) & $400 (large)

Passengers are not required to pay any fees for Swiss Airlines dog service on its flights traveling from/to the USA. However, emotional dog service on flights traveling from other countries or outside the USA will be charged with a fee depending on the weight and size and additional charges applicable. Moreover, you can make your pet reservations by calling on the reservation number and then talk to the Swiss Air customer service professional representatives. Moreover, you will also need to submit the required medical documents to the airline to fly with your pets.
